Do you want to play Far Cry 4 on ‘Ultra’ graphics settings? The Far Cry series has always been a beautiful game to enjoy the scenery with, the newest to the series is surely no exception from what I’ve seen so far, so it makes sense to want to see as much of the detail as possible. This is the sort of game that is likely to have had countless people spend inordinate amounts of hours perfecting the tiniest details that many who play through the game are unlikely to notice or pay attention to. Playing this game at anything less than ultra graphic settings would, in my eyes, be a slap in the face to these hard-working developers.
Far Cry 4 is built on the same game engine version that Far Cry 3 (and Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon) was released on, but it has been “heavily modified” for the newest instalment, hence the more demanding hardware requirements below.
Minimum requirements:
- Windows 7 / Windows 8.1 (64bit)
- Core i5-750 or Phenom II X4 955
- GTX 460 or HD 5850 (minimum 1GB)
- 4GB of RAM
- 30GB of storage space
Recommended requirements:
- Windows 7 / Windows 8.1 (64bit)
- Core i5-2400S or AMD FX-8350
- GTX 680 (GTX 770 or GTX 960 [not yet released]) or R9 290X (minimum 2GB)
- 8GB of RAM
- 30GB of storage space
Given the requirements, and that playing at less than ultra settings would be considered as multiple counts of assault (by me) – I’ve put together a fully customisable gaming PC which should be more than capable of playing Far Cry 4 at the highest settings at 1080p at least.
The system sports an Intel i5 4590 (quad core 3.3GHz), 8GB of 1600MHz DDR3 RAM, Galax GTX 970 4GB, a 1TB Western Digital blue HDD and a 500W Cooler Master power supply unit. All this is housed inside the amazing bang-for-buck Cooler Master K350 case, which allows for and provides enough cooling/airflow for all components, USB3 and audio front ports, and does not feel cheap to touch – even letting you see inside your PC with a window. All this would mean nothing without the Gigabyte motherboard to fit everything together. With our current prices, this gaming PC will set you back $1,095 without your choice of Windows 7 or Windows 8 (both $105 right now) – but enable you to play new release games on high settings for years to come. At that stage, it’s almost an investment in gaming happiness!
Please do keep in mind that our PCs are 100% customisable, so if you don’t like what I’ve selected above, you can change it! CPU, motherboard, RAM, case, power supply, storage device (if you’re choosing an SSD, keep in mind that just about all games now require 20 or even 30+GB to install, so if you’re getting a small SSD, consider a regular 500GB or 1TB hard drive as a secondary drive), graphics card, and more! What’s more? CPU coolers, optical drives, sound devices, network devices, additional fans (with or without coloured LED lighting), fan controllers, case lighting, operating system, anti-virus software, office software, PC packaging (for secure shipping), extended on-site warranty and the option to get your PC faster.
