The wildly popular Unreal Engine 4 powered battle royal first personal survival shooter game that entered early access on steam in March has already moved 2 million units and to celebrate the developer, BlueHole is holding a live twit scream in which 128 UK and US gamers will compete.
As part of the event they will be taking donations (Matched up to $100,000 by BlueHole) for Gamers Outreach, a charity that provides games and gadgets to young children in hospitals.
The stream is set to kick off on May 5th at 3am AEST and last 8 hours.
For those not yet familiar with the game, Battlegrounds plunged 100+ players in to a massive map that slowly shrinks over time imposing ever increasingly player dense areas for shoot outs until only one is left standing. Yes a lot of it’s mechanics have been done before by DayZ, The Culling and a slew of other early access games littering steam but the difference is, Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds does it right and with a much higher degree of polish.
While a lot of the competitions offerings are far less polished, the major issue is that a lot of them suffer from prolonged periods of simply boring, slow game play if you happen to have spawned on the wrong side of the map, or if your particular server isn’t very populated. Battlegrounds solves this with it’s dynamic map size adapting to the number of players left alive and it’s points of interest on the maps luring players in to the same area promoting conflict.
Be warned, the game is still technically in development regardless of how polished it feels, so don’t expect a flawless bug free experiance out of the game. That being said the developers have been on the ball with updates and lot of new content is surely right around the corner.
It’s currently $29.99 USD on Steam and easily found at the top of the best sellers list.
