Apart from our selection of PC games coming to PC this month, it’s also great to play games with others online, or at the very least, games that others are playing so you can discuss it together. What better way to put your gaming PC to use than by experiencing new games that thousands, if not millions of other PC gamers are enjoying? In this post, I’ll outline the top 10 most popular games for the last 30 days according to steam.
Starting off our top games at number 10 and working down to number 1, we have Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor – although only released at the very end of last month, it’s already entered Steam’s top 10 with very positive reviews.
At number 9 we have Borderlands 2 despite coming out over 2 years ago now with overwhelmingly positive reviews, it goes to show that this game being multiplayer has a strong staying power and is very likely to be in a number of future reports.
Number 8, Warframe. Released in Q1 of 2013 it is also a multiplayer game with very positive reviews – best of all, this one is free to play.
Football Manager 2014 calls number 7 home this month, released in October 2013, and although it’s not your typical “PC game” it too has very positive reviews and we thought it may be of interest to those keen on sports.
The unconventional but strangely satisfying and enjoyable Garry’s Mod sits at number 6 with overwhelmingly positive reviews. It is of course a multiplayer game but has no objectives. We’ll let you work out what to do with that one.
Released in Q4 of 2011, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is at number 5. Although it’s only a single player game, the amount of things you can do within the game is enough to keep people playing for thousands of hours – which is the case for many, and the result of this title having approximately 72,000 reviews and over 70,000 of those being positive.
Sid Meier’s Civilization V lands at number 4, out in September 2010 it too has overwhelmingly positive reviews. This turn-based strategy and multiplayer game is also moddable, historical and educational in its own way.
At number 3 we have the brilliant free-to-play Team Fortress 2, which is a multiplayer first-person-shooter released in 2007 has not stopped being a popular game, even before it became free-to-play. It, of course, has overwhelmingly positive reviews; 178,000 out of which 173,000 are positives – now, for a game that’s been out for 7 years, that’s not bad at all. Strong staying power. Highly recommended. In the last 24 hours, the concurrent number of players online peak was 64,000.
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive earns itself position 2, released in August 2012 it’s a sequel to the ever-popular Couter-Strike series which has undoubtedly touched every PC gamer’s life. With over 241,000 reviews, CS: GO gets more than 231,000 of them as positives, earning it too the badge of overwhelmingly positive reviews. It’s the gameplay and maps we all know and love from previous Counter-Strike games with new and improved graphics, new maps and new game modes too. In the last 24 hours, the concurrent number of players online peak was 221,000.
The free-to-play multiplayer, with very positive reviews, DoTA 2 sits quite comfortably at number 1 this month, and probably many months or even years to come. A game derived from an insanely popular Warcraft III custom map by the same name, it sparked into the massive game and lifestyle that DoTA has become. In this game, two teams of up to 5 players each; Radiant, the ‘good’, and Dire, the ‘evil’, battle each other until one is able to destroy the other’s base. The game has a fair amount of strategy and no two games are ever alike. Find out why there are world-famous DoTA 2 teams and individual players competing in matches against each other that hundreds and thousands of people attend, just to watch, as well as being streamed online for even more to watch. Tournaments are played for prizes of a few thousand up to, oh, just a million dollars or so. In the last 24 hours, the concurrent number of players online peak was a staggering 742,000.
So that’s the list for this month, keeping in mind of course that this is only Steam games and was true at the time of writing – check back next month for what’s hot, or still hot!
