GTX960 TI

The GTX 960 and GTX 960 TI arriving soon! Worth the wait?

Update : MSI Gaming edition cards are the first to get an street date of 22/01. They have also listed a “suggested retail price” of $399 AUD but we pretty safely expect street prices well below this on release date. MSI says the TI edition of the GTX 960 is due ‘early February’ with no SRP details just yet. Will will update this post with any news we hear from other vendors in the meantime.

Original Post : The the internet all abuzz with plenty of rumors and speculation over the last month or so regarding the upcoming release of the GTX 960 and TI series of cards from NVIDIA, it seems we have pretty much reached a consensus and the current rumors seem so well backed up with leaks and insider comments that they are almost as good as facts.

So what do we know?

  • There likely be 3 tiers, a low end GTX 960, a mid range TI (1280 cuda cores) and a high end TI edition (1536 cuda cores).
  • It’s possible the initial release will only include a single TI variant.
  • The current release date is rumored to be the 22nd of January.
  • Prices are unconfirmed but are likely to around the same price as an R9 280.
  • The base GTX 960 may have a 2GB edition but the TI variants will likely include 4GB of GDDR5 memory.
  • Unverified benchmarks suggest the base GTX 960’s performance may be similar to that of a R9 280 but the upper TI edition could out perform a GTX 780, only just behind the R9 290 at presumably a much lower price bracket.

So is it worth the wait?

If a GTX 970 or GTX 980 is a little outside of your budget but you don’t to settle for a card that will soon be a generation old only weeks after purchase, we suggest hanging on to your hard earned dollars for a couple more weeks and make a decision when Australian GTX 960 TI pricing is confirmed. Who knows, it may even trigger price drops on the AMD side (but we’re not holding our breathe).
